Shooting at Toronto's Salsa on St. Clair festival kills two, injures several

Two people were killed and at least four others were injured Saturday night after gunfire near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue during Toronto’s Salsa on St. Clair street festival. Toronto police said the gunfire appears to have been a series of shots exchanged between two groups. Officers cordoned off an alley south of St. Clair and east of Arlington as emergency responders treated multiple wounded people at the scene. A resident who witnessed the aftermath said they saw two people who had been shot and another person with a bandaged foot. Police have opened an investigation into the deadly shooting.

This is my neighbourhood. Thankfully I was at home, when this happened. We've attended Salsa on St. Clair many times. It has always been a fun, joyous celebration of Latin music, dance & food. Sad for anyone affected by this violence in our family-friendly community. #SheShed #Toronto

I worry TPS and the city are going to use this as justification for maintaining, or increasing security theatre at open street events which will ironically only serve to increase crowding and potential for harm at the few that continue.
