Trump’s Great American State Fair temporarily shuts down for heat

The Great American State Fair on the National Mall temporarily paused operations until 5 p.m. as Washington, D.C., temperatures climbed into the triple digits. CNN reported organizers halted the event during a dangerous East Coast heat wave while millions prepare Fourth of July plans. Attendance on the Mall was light, and the event featured live Fox News coverage and at least one Confederate flag on site, according to reporting. More than 1,000 Christian missionaries attended the Mall for outreach, and organizers said about 40 missionary teams logged contacting 2,231 people on an app and written “stat cards” tracking conversions. Critics noted the fair’s low turnout and extreme heat compounded other controversies around the Trump-run event. The fair planned to resume operations at 5 p.m. local time once temperatures were expected to ease.
