Marc Elias warns of election deniers and threats to mail‑in voting
Marc Elias and historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat released a video essay warning that election deniers and allies of former president Donald Trump are pursuing legal and administrative steps to undermine mail-in voting. Elias says those efforts include compiling a nationwide voter list to enable purges and pressuring the U.S. Postal Service to withhold mailed ballots from states that refuse to supply voting lists. Elias and his Democracy Docket team are urging the public to submit comments during the USPS rulemaking comment period, which closes July 2, and preparing litigation to block measures that would disenfranchise mail-in voters. If those tactics succeed, millions could be prevented from receiving ballots and the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections could be materially affected.
