RFK Jr orders mandatory hantavirus quarantine, experts decry coercion
Kennedy just made a really alarming move -- refusing to let a woman exposed to hantavirus to self-quarantine, which doctors agree is safe. Lots of troubling implications in my latest: www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...
I know a lot of people on the Internet are freaked out about Andes virus, but other countries are showing that spread truly is rare once an outbreak is identified. Self-quarantine -- especially five weeks after exposure! -- would absolutely be fine
This article’s not clear - it seems like the decision here was less “no self-quarantine ever”, because other people in other states *were* allowed to do so, and more “your state has to agree to provide health monitoring for you to self-quarantine”, which Florida wouldn’t do.
In certain circumstances self quarantine is not appropriate due to other factors. Knowledge of the individual having a pressing need to not self quarantine/flight risk. Unable to set up isolation at home (not enough rooms/lives in an apartment with shared air in the building) or needs care).
Why isn’t MTG advocating for this person’s rights?? 🧐
