The Amazing Digital Circus, series finale released
The indie animated series The Amazing Digital Circus released its series finale, The Last Act, bringing the show's central arc to a close. Creator Gooseworx and the Glitch cast reveal that the circus inhabitants are sentient copies of real people trapped inside a simulation, and the episode focuses on Jax's backstory and a forgiveness-driven reconciliation with Ribbit. The finale gives emotional closure to characters such as Pomni, Ragatha, and Kinger while leaving the real-world identity of Jonesy ambiguous. That combination of resolved character arcs and lingering mystery highlights the series' blend of existential horror and heartfelt exploration of identity and community.
I think the Amazing Digital Circus finale left too many questions unanswered, namely... who is Jonesy in real life? Did Jonesy abstract? Was Jonesy the one who deabstracted Jax? Is the computer that runs these simulations connected to a PC that runs Fortnite? I want to know more about this "Jonesy"
It is speculated that the fortnite scene happens around the time of episode 6.
Finally, someone brave enough to ask the real questions.
i think that this was canonically before chapter 7, bc jax hasnt abstracted, caine still has his powers and all that kinda stuff, and i think the jonesy here is a brain scan of the jonesy in "real life" (fortnite canon) WHY THE FUCK AM I TAKING THIS SO SERIOUSLY
does this mean every character in Fortnite is someone who got scanned irl, does the Rock keep going back to get scanned multiple times?
Hello Jonesy, welcome to Fortnite
"The hearts around the door could mean anything, it's about Zooble feeling happy in their body, yeah Gangle's door is open, do you always close the door behind you? Ragatha was blushing because she's HAPPY for her friend Zooble, people have the craziest headcanons istg" "Jax is cis" be like
I try not to get angry on the internet but the willful ignorance of some people drives me up the fucking wall! The song they play is "Isn't She Lovely" and people can't engage with the straightforward artistic point of Jax being trans. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
and zooble asked to be able to have sex and caine said he'd work with them to make things how they want so like!!!
The room full of 13yos when I watched it all got it - seems clear to me 🤷♀️
Are people really trying to convince other people that Zooble and Gangle weren't having sex? Cause it seems really obvious right there.
I've seen both Jax and Zooble as Gender-Queer. Possibly more characters as well.
Ocelot's Russian Taunt strikes again.
Goose (writer/director of The Amazing Digital Circus) snarkily spelling out the trans subtext of the show as bluntly and snarkily as possible across social media is both great and also sad that it has to happen. And some folks are still telling her 'Nuh-uh, because death of the author!'.
There's also a subset of people that do accept that it is a trans narrative, written by a trans person, but also that actually she hates trans people and wants to see them suffer, and is homophobic too??? No wonder she's pissy.
A lot of people are struggling because it's no longer subtext, it's just text. The text of the finale isn't a trans allegory or metaphor, it's just a trans story, presented with queer characters. Subtext was making an "egg" joke, TEXT-text is Jax & Ribbit openly discussing it. It's the whole point!
The last part of your Skeet is why I hate fandom.
We don't get to be textually present in anything, so I have a hard time blaming queer people for refusing to accept subtext even when it's that blatant.
I love how active bad faith arguments have ruined peoples concept of what death of the author means
When I saw The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act and I saw scene with Ribbit and Jax, I knew exactly what Jax was. I cried a ton because her backstory hit so close to home. I love you Jax I also remember people in theater gasping and someone said “wow she is like me” #art #artistsonbsky #trans
Her fate made me sad and reminded me of the unfortunate reality of life as a trans person: there are many of us who don’t make it or whose lives are short. The world is a cruel place for us. Please keep an eye on your trans friends. Tell them everything is gonna be okay. Complement them. Hold them
Your monitor is an old apple? Thats so fucking cool
Also Ragatha voice actress confirm Jax is trans. We trans gals are eating good HAPPY PRIDE YALL bsky.app/profile/toon...
Honestly all the girls (plus Zooble) made me sob so much today. Probably exacerbated by the fact I was able to avoid spoilers for the show since episode 2 then binged all 7 remaining episodes in one sitting… 😅 The feels hit me like a damn truck today.
Just watched the finale of The Amazing Digital Circus with my kids, which was fantastic, and it got me thinking of a short fiction from a while back of a guy who gets copied as a program, and then the program gets farmed out to various uses and goes insane every time, anyone remember the source?
It’s presented as a faux scientific study and it’s really well done, I’m blanking on the name though. If someone can link me to it I’d great appreciate it.
Not a short story, but Neoromancer did something like this. Protagonist's mentor's mind was copied into a flash drive, apparently didn't know it was a program. It couldn't save, though, so every time he plugged it in it woke up for the first time.
Somewhat similar but with a more corporate vibe about a guy getting uploaded into Slack is Several People are Typing. It was fun and weird. www.goodreads.com/book/show/56...
Not short fiction (looks like someone maybe linked the one you are thinking of already) but this is also similar to the plot of Pantheon on Netflix.
