Civil‑defense alerts in Curitiba send 'misantropia' message, prompt hack fears

newsJun 20, 202635431

Curitiba's civil-defense alert system pushed emergency notifications overnight that contained the word "MISANTROPIA" and other bizarre text. Messages ranged from single-word alerts to test-like lines and odd file or media names such as "matanza_odiosa-natureza-humana.mp3", and similar alerts were reported in Salvador, São Paulo and Goiânia. The alerts prompted fears the system was hacked or misconfigured. Because civil-defense alerts are reserved for imminent threats, false or prank messages can cause confusion, alarm and undermine public trust in emergency communications.
