Broadcasters air commercials during World Cup hydration breaks
FOX cut to a commercial during a hydration break in an opening World Cup match, while Telemundo remained on live coverage without ads. Hydration breaks are short stoppages for player hydration, not full halftime intervals. At least some viewers switched to Spanish-language Telemundo after FOX inserted its commercial. The move highlights a tension between broadcasters' advertising schedules and expectations for uninterrupted live sports coverage.
world cup hydration breaks are being used for commercials. disappointing but entirely predictable takes away one of my favorite things about watching soccer on television — two 45ish-minute commercial free halves of competition
I was just complaining about this to my family text group and I got this in response from one of our kids
It’s the entire rationale for them! If it wasn’t you’d only have them in certain games where the climate requires it. As it stands if it’s 12 degrees and wet they’ll stop to have a hydration break.
yup gross. I will watch most games on Telemundo. No commercials there. Although I love listening to Ian Darke
Only on Fox, Telemundo they did not break at all
I'm very pro hydration breaks but I think we should be using them for here's what you missed
Not in Germany, here they're used for the announcer to awkwardly bring up cartel violence for some reason (??)
