FIFA World Cup 2026 opens across US, Canada and Mexico amid privacy and visa concerns
When athletes don't know if they'll be allowed into the host country for the World Cup, the problem isn't the athletes. The problem is the host country. This rotten regime manages to embarrass America in ways I never thought possible.
What’s going to happen in 2 years in LA with the Olympics!!!! I’m assuming it will be even worse by then.
FIFA wakes up very relaxed. They don't care. The money is already in their pockets; they don't give a flying shit about fans, players, the SS grabbing black folks, nothing. Just the money.
Exactly. USA is an embarrassment.
FIFA is just as corrupt as trump.
I rode in an Uber recently driven by a man from Afghanistan who had worked for our military in his country. He eventually had to flee with his family under a Taliban death threat. As he told his story, I was SO embarrassed by my country. I apologized over & over. What a weird feeling that is.
The US doesn't deserve the Olympics. If ICE and DHS are going to behave this way with Olympic teams, we are lost as a member of the international order for sports. The event should be moved and our teams should be excluded like the Russian teams have been. Our athletes could compete with no flag.
They have two years to move the Olympics. This shit cannot be allowed to happen a second time. Look how devastating a second Trump term has been.
Other than Trump, this is now solely on FIFA. They knew exactly what kind of man Trump was when they bribed him w/ their ridiculous FIFA peace prize & then paid rent on office space at Trump Tower that remained empty. What exactly did FIFA get from Trump? 🤔 I hope the WC ratings & profits plummet.
All athletes should back out in protest.
I totally agree but lets not forget to give a yellow card to the king of sleeze & grift, the one & only Infantino who's facilitating all this the very same Infantino who gave Trump a Peace Prize ffs 🙄 Who even knew there was anyone even more crooked than Seth Blatter in FIFA.
Just wait until the Olympics. This is practice.
Just when you think they've hit the bottom, they dig a deeper hole. 🙄
Yes! Big piece on UK news yesterday about the problems of Scottish personnel getting visas. The certificates from UK police aren’t being accepted.
BUT, at least trumpty got a FIFA peace medal
Easily solution to help keep everyone (that is sane) safe. Boycott WC!! Sell tickets and make the felon47 treasonous Admin cry that no one is coming. He'll keep bs'ing his base "we have the biggest WC in history. Everyone is coming" Call out his lies!!
I knew this was going to happen, how come other people didn't know?
Trump shall be on the subs bench when the US reach the final, after the rest of the worlds best teams are 'beaten', so he can come on to score the winning goal in the 2026 World Cup.
There are Scotland fans who lost their right to travel one hour before they were due to fly.
Canada is co-hosting the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup. It is being incorrectly shared that is is the "first" World Cup held in Canada. WRONG! Canada hosted the 2015 Women's World Cup. You're welcome.
Prior to that, Canada hosted the U20 Men's World Cup in 2007. But for Senior teams, the WWC was the first in 2015.
That was such a fun tournament even though there was nonsensical artificial turf. A World Cup with field turf, disgusting.
A few days ago I said that the only World Cup matches I attended were six in Portland in 2003.
Support the people not the billionaires at the World Cup #TaxTheSuperRich #worldcup2026
Nice you can afford this stupid expensive worldcup. Most ordinairy people cannot. Actually nobody should attend this worldcup live. Empty tribunes and Hotels would be a huge slap in the face of corrupt Trump and Fantino!
The players are among the super-rich nowadays.
Boycott FIFA and the orange nazi's world cup. And tax also football superstars.
The air travel involved for thousands of fans (who were allowed into the country) between matches is insane. The world cup is a fucking disgrace on an environmental level.
I honestly don’t know why people are bothering this year. Don’t get me wrong, I want to get behind England but the US is a clusterfuck of epic proportions, at the moment and the cost of the tickets… nope.
Anyone that goes, gets ripped off paying for water, accommodation, travel, never mind tickets, deserves to get fleeced. That the finals in Russia had a better vibe speaks volumes.
World Cup. The first one I went to was Italia 90. It blew my mind being part of that global party - accessible to all including a teenager with £200 and a sleeping bag (plenty for two matches and a million laughs). Over time that ideal has been corrupted. www.theguardian.com/football/blo...
It is hard to generate the excitement and enthusiasm that is part of the World Cup cycle ideally. We all wait four years for this. Usually the football takes over once it all starts, and the politicking (and worse) moves backstage. Let's see.
For me the ideal World Cup would be in a single country which has a rich football supporting heritage. Also better if the country isn’t too geographically big so that there’s more focused intensity . Would also help that the country wasn’t run by craven fascists
Folks: my magnum opus. The 2026 World Cup, and all 48 teams, through the lens of their college basketball counterparts. Uruguay is Marquette, the USMNT is Wisconsin, Cote d'Ivoire is Davidson, and yes, Germany is Kentucky www.basketunderreview.com/the-2026-wor...
As an American of Dutch descent who cheers for the Oranje and also went to Houston, I should've seen that comparison coming, but did not. Had to get up and go stare out the window for several minutes while pondering what could've been, so thanks for that, no notes.
Some for teams who didn't make the big show. Italy: UCLA Denmark: Oklahoma State? Greece: Georgia Tech Wales: South Carolina San Marino: Mississippi Valley State
After reading your (excellent) article, I’ve decided that Football’s Coming Home
World Cup tickets remain unsold, hotel rooms unbooked across US host cities, overpriced travel to and from matches – even threats of deportation for some fans. Emily Maitlis asks: "Is the Donald Trump effect putting people off America?" www.thenewsagents.co.uk/article/is-t...
Yes - next question ⁉️
From a sample of one, yes. I'm not taking the risk of going there until there's regime change. Anyone checking my social media will instantly see I'm no fan of Trump, but I don't see why that should risk me spending several months in jail before being deported.
Yes - and not just for the World Cup.
I don't even want to watch it down the pub. It's too tainted with Trump old-man smell.
Not just for the World Cup either.
Further to the is rain wet,Pope/Catholic, bears/woods debates, the answer based on my my brother & our 3 sons massively cancelling plans we discussed during our last visit to the US 3 years ago, and where I've spent 6 months or so in total in my life, is a massive yes. Sad but no way are we going.
He’s just making America hugely unpopular
This is one of them thar rhetorical type questions, right?
