Monaco GP hit by wave of pit‑lane speeding penalties

sportsJun 7, 202629342

At the Monaco Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri, Pierre Gasly, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were each handed five-second time penalties for speeding in the pit lane during mid-race stops. FIA stewards issued the penalties around laps 33 to 37 as teams cycled through pit stops; five-second penalties are added to race time and can change finishing positions. Earlier in the weekend a support staff member ran across the pit-lane entrance during the F2 feature race just as three cars entered, creating a dangerous near-miss in Monaco's tight pit complex. At Monaco, where overtaking is rare, pit-lane penalties and safety breaches frequently decide podium order and championship points.
