Golden Tempo won the 158th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, capturing the third leg of the Triple Crown five weeks after winning the Kentucky Derby and making more history for trainer Cherie DeVaux.

I doubt any Belmont Stakes will ever hit the same for me as the one eleven years ago today. Even though my life has always been lived on the edges of horse racing - I am not from a generational family - I still feel like there was a me that existed before June 6th, 2015, and a me that exists after.

They call it the Belmont Stakes, but for the horses involved, it's more like the Belmont Steaks. They'll be on the grill within an hour. Horrible sport. (Not watching this on purpose. Had it in my deteriorating mind that the Red Sox game was at 6).
