Masters of the Universe posts $11.75M Friday, $30M weekend projected
Amazon MGM Studios' Masters of the Universe earned an estimated $11.75 million on opening Friday in North America from 3,677 theaters, including preview screenings. Industry trackers project roughly a $30.12 million three-day domestic weekend for the He-Man reboot. Directed by Travis Knight, the film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam with Camila Mendes, Idris Elba and Jared Leto as Skeletor, and features a Dolph Lundgren cameo. Its opening will test audience appetite for 1980s toy-based reboots and shape Amazon MGM's summer box office momentum.
And this gross crap is supposed to do better than Masters of the Universe at the box office? Really? Honestly, screw you all!
I remember watching Scary Movie 1 in theatre waaay back when it I usually released. It was the first time I ever regretted spending money on a ticket and found myself impatient for a movie to end. Battlefield Earth got a lot more laughs and entertainment, and it wasn't trying to be a comedy!
I love the idea of a lynch mob being funny! Especially when it's minority writers / directors shitting on a more vulnerable minority!
So a movie that is about being a good person and that empathy is just as important as strength is expected to lose against a "comedy" that thinks murdering nonbinary people is funny.
