Spider‑Noir debuts, viewers praise Nicolas Cage's turn
Prime Video's Spider‑Noir premieres to positive viewer reactions praising Nicolas Cage's noir‑style performance and pulpy tone.
Saw that spider noir show and Nicolas cage is now a distractingly old man to be playing that role
“This dizzy dame had all the right answers and was a solid 40 years younger than me…”
After fighting in WWI, getting mustard gassed, all the smoking, drinking, and industrial revolution pollution, Nic looks like a solid Depression era 30 year old.
Helped sell how often he gets his ass handed to him; not so much the getting up after
My TV just told me that there’s a new Marvel series called Spider-Noir starring Nicolas Cage, what a world
The guy who created Spider-Noir has the most Israeli name of all time (Oren Uziel) and yet he’s apparently American and I’m doing a deep dive to try to find out if one or both of his parents are Israeli like some psycho antisemite
It's a spin off from the animated movies Into the Spider-verse and Across the Spider-verse. I don't think you'll need to watch them to watch the show, but they're very good, two of my favorite super hero movies
I've seen the first half so far. I've been pleasantly surprised. Usually Sony go completely to pieces when they tackle anything Marvel related, but this works. It's a 1920s period piece and you can optionally watch it in Black and White, which I would recommend.
Spider-Noir is right up my street, with its retro aesthetic and a hint of gothic horror. This would have been a perfect role for Nicolas Cage, but – shit, I’m just gonna say it. I think he might be too old. He’s romancing a woman 30 years his junior, and is supposed to be supernaturally agile. 1/2
I know he’s supposed to be worn out and world weary, but this is a stretch. He’s also doing a chewy thing with his voice sometimes that might be a Bogart impression, but I’m not sure. I really LIKE Cage, and it’s a great part for him, but the age thing keeps pulling me out of the story. 2/2
There are times where it feels like the actors are playing characters from the era, and there are other times where it feels like the actors are playing actors from the era playing those characters. If that makes sense.
