John Fogerty celebrates 81st birthday
John Fogerty, lead singer-songwriter of Creedence Clearwater Revival, turns 81 today; he was born May 28, 1945, in Berkeley, California. Fogerty formed the Blue Velvets with his brother Tom in 1959, evolved into the Golliwogs, and led CCR from 1967, writing hits such as "Proud Mary" and "Have You Ever Seen The Rain." On August 22, 2023 Fogerty bought a majority stake in Creedence Clearwater Revival's publishing rights, gaining ownership of his songs after decades of legal and business disputes. That ownership, plus recent re-recordings like "Have You Ever Seen The Rain (John's Version)," gives Fogerty control over his swampy roots-rock catalog and how it will be used and reissued.
Happy Birthday, John Fogerty! 🎶 What's one of your favorite Fogerty solo or Creedence Clearwater Revival songs? 🎶 Born in Berkeley, CA, on May 28, 1945, Fogerty, along with his brother Tom, formed the Blue Velvets in 1959. They changed their name to the Golliwogs and finally to CCR in 1967. 👇
CCR had nine top 10 billboard singles & 8 gold albums between 1968 and 1972 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. After CCR broke up, Fogerty went on to have a successful solo career, releasing 10 studio albums. In 2005, Fogerty was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
I'm a big fan of CCR and Fogerty. "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" has always been one of my favorites.

So many great songs. A few of my picks are "Down on the Corner," "The Old Man Down the Road," "Proud Mary," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," and "Bad Moon Rising." Fogerty had that rare ability to make roots rock sound gritty, timeless, and instantly recognizable within seconds.
His first 2 solo albums in 1973 & 75 are nearly perfect. Lots of great honky tonk covers by artists that I didn't know about. I'll Be Glad When You Dead You Rascal You is a favorite.
Maybe: Have You Ever Seen the Rain and Down on the Corner. Ask me a different day and you might get a different answer.
Brilliant to know he's still with us 😉,
Happy Birthday John! CCR became the soundtrack for the late 60’s and early 70’s. I used to play the 45 rpm Down On the Corner and Fortunate Son on my first record player in my room and dance around like crazy. I would like to thank John for the great catalog of music and memories.
🎵 There's a bad moon on the rise! 🎵 It doesn't get much better than that.

Good morning, Blue Sky! "Saw the people standing, thousand years in chains Somebody said it's different now, look, it's just the same Pharaohs spin the message, 'round and 'round the truth They could have saved a million people, how can I tell you?" (Happy Birthday, John Fogerty!)

Great, now I have that godforsaken Billy Vera song in my head. Although, it’s better than having a John Fogerty song in my head. I think.
