The European Commission fined Chinese retailer Temu €200 million for failing to perform required Digital Services Act risk assessments and for allowing illegal and unsafe consumer products to circulate on its EU marketplace. Investigators found Temu did not identify or mitigate systemic risks, including dangerous goods and items banned in the bloc. The penalty is one of the first DSA enforcement actions aimed at physical consumer harm and signals the EU will press large marketplaces to strengthen product safety and compliance in Europe.
