Iran's national soccer team will base in Tijuana, Mexico, and commute to U.S. venues on match days for its three World Cup games, organizers said. The United States declined to host the squad for a tournament base, so Mexican authorities and World Cup organizers arranged the cross-border plan. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she sees no issue with hosting Iran's team in Mexico, enabling the squad to train and sleep across the border. The setup preserves Iran's participation while creating novel logistical, security and diplomatic challenges from daily international border crossings.
