A 39-year-old man died after a shark attacked him while he was fishing at Kennedy Shoal on the Great Barrier Reef off far north Queensland. Emergency services were alerted about midday and rushed the man to shore, but he died shortly afterwards. Responders operated from the Hull River boat ramp on the Cassowary Coast, roughly 160 kilometres south of Cairns. The attack underscores the risks of fishing and swimming in remote reef waters and raises local safety concerns for anglers and tourists.
