U.S. pauses $14bn Taiwan arms sale, Navy official cites Iran war

Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao said Thursday the United States has paused a $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan to preserve munitions for operations tied to the Iran war. Cao said the pause will delay planned deliveries of munitions and other armaments so the American military can sustain expected operations in the Middle East. The hold reduces near-term reinforcement of Taiwan's defenses and indicates the U.S. is prioritizing munitions for Iran-related operations over immediate upgrades to Taiwan's arsenal.
