Two Navy EA-18G Growlers collide at Idaho air show, four eject safely
Two U.S. Navy EA-18G Growlers collided during a demonstration at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho on the second day of the Gunfighters Air Show, and both jets crashed at the public event. All four crew members ejected safely, emergency crews responded, and the airmen were taken for medical evaluation. The loss of two Growlers during a public demonstration raises immediate questions about air-show safety and could affect the Navy's electronic-attack fleet readiness.
Two jets appeared to collide and their crews ejected during a performance at an air show at a military base in Idaho. "The aircrew involved in the incident are in stable condition," the base reported. n.pr/3Pcn8y6
🙄 no need for the “appeared to” bro. they collided. they didn’t just crash to the ground and explode on impact for no reason.
What's with the 'appeared' verbiage
Did collide. Cleary. And seemed to lock up like mating eagles!
If your style guide requires equivocation in this particular incident you might want to rethink it.
They didn't just "appear" to collide.
The last paragraph here is the most deeply-buried lede in history.
39 aircraft lost this year alone? That’s taxpayers money being disrespected. How does this figure compare to past years? bsky.app/profile/your...
2 F-18s crashed, what picture should we use? Definitely the one of the Thunderbirds' F-16s. Idiocy.
When the military and the entire country is being as poorly led as it now is, things happen.
Two US Navy jets collided mid-air and exploded during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base.
absolutely incredible that all 4 crew members were able to punch out to safety
Thankful that the two in the bottom jet had space to eject, looked like they might have been pinned in for a sec
That's not so much a collision as the two of them getting entangled with each other. Bizarre.
Glad they’re safe, but are taxpayers funding this? If so, why? People are homeless and hungry??
Insane. It wasn’t like they couldn’t see each other. Also weird, and unrelated to the collision: Apparently REAL ID is unnecessary to go an AFB. But to get on a commercial airplane, it’s required. What?!
Are they still doing these shows? Waste of money (and lives, apparently).
A further few millions destroyed there.
Two military planes collided in midair on Sunday during an air show at the Mountain Home Air Face Base in Idaho, according to a witness and videos shared on social media. At least four parachutes were deployed before the planes crashed.
Jfc. What a fucking waste of money.
huge waste of money. at least some stupid planes are gone i guess
Glad no one was injured but military air shows have always been a spectacular waste of taxpayer money. And now it just feels particularly tone deaf.
Glad to see the chutes. Have to wonder if the cost of these shows, in human terms and budget terms, is worth it. About $4 mil up in smoke.
Emergency crews responded after the two planes collided during the show at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in western Idaho. All four of the crew members from the planes ejected safely, organizers say. https://to.pbs.org/4dujTds
Glad they are safe, but what an unnecessary waste.
Airshows: the dumbest of all shows
What a waste, and for what? Showing off? No different than rednecks doing donuts, except trashing a mustang on a curb doesn't cost $40 million.
It’s almost like there is some kind of invisible force giving us signs that maybe this isn’t a great use of our resources, and time. Either the fuel shortage is a big lie, or fuel is actually not as valuable a resource as we are told, or the folks making decisions are dumb AF. Or, all of the above🤷🏼♀️
There are countries that are limiting their energy to save lives. Meanwhile, this is the dumbest most selfish, American privileged thing ever. Then emergency crews come in, so it's another double dip in American citizens' taxdollars.
Air shows are really something lol imagine if about once a year at minimum the Army had a tank show and oops the tanks just mortar attacked each other and everyone was just like ya lol that happens WITH WAR PLANES THEY DO IT ALL THE TIME, IN MANY COUNTRIES' MILITARIES IN ADDITION TO THE US DO IT
Yea lol I'll pour one out for our fallen troops 🥂 here's to the ones who fell in a bog and fell off a cliff and fell out of the sky
my partner lived in the debris zone for the Blue Angel crash in middle Tennessee

An unbroken line of military displays of power all the way back to the Imperial Romans, and every goddamn time something fucks up. Maybe we could stop doing these ersatz Tributes.
Oh I was at one of those
only airshow i’ve ever been to was an antique aircraft fly in. it’s like a car show, but for planes over 50 years old. it was awesome as hell and with the exception of take offs and landings, the planes never left the ground.
All four crew are reported in stable condition. Those weren’t clean punch outs.. they’re so damn lucky. The Martin-Baker ejection seat puts 4 more on the board. >=7,820 lives saved. 3rd hull loss accident I know of at mountain home gunfighter skies air show. #Idaho
Not second guessing anyone, I’m an hour west of MHAFB so idk, but I’m *really* surprised an air show was flying today given the winds on the snake river plain today.
I was impressed watching that video they got out of there unscathed. Definitely lucky the planes got locked up in that position and both went vertical. Tiniest window of opportunity to escape.
