Gameoverse pilot released, Glitch's new show draws fan praise
Glitch released the Gameoverse pilot, introducing lead character Kit with multiple outfit variants and detailed animation. Viewers praised the pilot's production quality, tight writing and pacing, and a cast led by Ross O'Donovan and Arin Hanson. The end credits include a dedication to animator Monty Oum and display the GameGrumps logo. Glitch also rolled out Gameoverse.store merchandise with regional pricing that made items notably affordable in Mexico, and some viewers called the pilot a potential successor to TADC.
I'm interested to see more of what Gameoverse has to offer (if it gets greenlit) but I will admit, I wasn't too in love with the pilot. I feel like the pacing was a little too fast and way too much information was crammed in that could've been spread out. Kit was also shockingly underwhelming.
I know people gave KOG crap for having a much slower pace, but I appreciated it a lot. I really enjoyed just letting the audience sit and absorb the world while slowly learning more about the protagonists and their dynamic. I really can't say much about Gameoverse's main cast unfortunately.
this is an issue I see a lot with animated pilots, tbh. first episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks was like OBSCENELY too fast-paced, like they were trying to fit a whole 45-minute Trek episode into 22 minutes
It's kind of a pattern with these pilots where the pacing is atrocious. Planetronika for example.
That, and Kit felt like Pomni in the pilot cranked up a couple levels, as one person described
The problem for me, is that the teaser trailer did what the pilot was doing in two minutes and didn't really supply anything else new with the premise. TADC, Gaslight and KoG all let the thematics and vibes linger and exist on their own while presenting a lot of hooks for the series going forward.
