Scientists warn of dangerous heat risks at 2026 World Cup venues

A group of climate scientists warns that heat and humidity at some 2026 World Cup venues, especially Miami, could reach levels dangerous for players and spectators. A World Weather Attribution analysis estimates about 25% of matches could exceed 26°C with high humidity, and the experts say FIFA's current heat-safety measures are inadequate to prevent heat-related harm. That raises the risk of heat illness during games and could force more cooling breaks, schedule changes, venue modifications, or stricter medical protocols before the tournament.
