Virginia joins National Popular Vote Interstate Compact

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact into law, making Virginia the latest state to bind its electors to the nationwide popular vote winner. Under the compact, participating states pledge to award all their electoral votes to the candidate WHO wins the national popular vote once states totaling 270 electoral votes have joined. By adding Virginia, the effort moves closer to the 270 threshold that would make the national popular vote determine future presidential elections rather than the current Electoral College allocation.

Great idea with a big issue. Removing the EC would require a Constitutional Amendment which in today's political climate could take decades, e.g. the ERA. Better is the 'National Popular Vote Interstate Compact '... usconstitution.net/national-pop....

Yes, I support. The EC was (acknowledged at the time) a flawed compromise necessary to form a union. The world has changed. This should be paired with a (perhaps a bit cumbersome) mechanism for a popular vote for recall.

To be clear, this would require a constitutional amendment, which requires 2/3 of both houses of congress, and 75% of states ratifying it. Which is frankly a fever dream right now. If you live in a state that isn't signed up for this, pester your reps. Incessantly. www.nationalpopularvote.com
