Lorna Slater wins Edinburgh Central, Greens' first Holyrood constituency
Lorna Slater won the Edinburgh Central constituency, becoming the Scottish Greens' first-ever constituency MSP at Holyrood. She captured the seat outright, with SNP veteran Angus Robertson pushed into third place. The historic victory gives the Scottish Greens a constituency foothold in Holyrood and strengthens their leverage in post-election talks over policy and coalition arrangements.
🟢 @lornaslater.bsky.social elected to represent Edinburgh Central! Lorna is the first Scottish Green MSP to be elected today, and the first Scottish Green constituency MSP to be elected ever!
Not only did she win, she won with a huge margin! More than half again the Labour vote, with SNP's Angus Robertson pushed into third place. Wow.
Well done and totally deserved. Edinburgh Central is in a safe pair of hands.
Congratulations to Lorna, and an even bigger congratulations to Edinburgh. 👏👏
Turns out to have been a more interesting election than expected in Scotland. I don't think Labour taking Na h-Eileanan an Iar from the SNP or the SNP taking Shetland from the Lib Dems were on many folk's predictions, and the Scottish Greens taking Edinburgh Central so convincingly is remarkable.
Glasgow Southside is also incredible. From a Labour POV, that’s a seat you have to take if you want to take the country.
Agreed! We don’t agree on everything, but you’re right on that. Some interesting SNP to Green changes too. Wondering how it’ll all settle out with the regional list votes added in…
