FIFA updates resale policy for Toronto World Cup matches

sportsMay 7, 2026274,394

FIFA announced that resale of tickets for Toronto World Cup matches must follow Ontario's law banning sales above face value, while resale policies for other host cities remain unchanged. Under the update, secondary listings for matches in Toronto cannot be advertised or sold for more than the original ticket price, aligning FIFA ticketing there with provincial consumer‑protection rules. FIFA said the change requires ticketing platforms to implement location-specific resale restrictions for Canadian matches. The result is that Toronto buyers should face fewer steep secondary-market markups, while fans attending matches in other host cities should still expect market-driven resale prices.

I hope the World Cup is an unmitigated disaster. Football will survive, hopefully FIFA won't.

I think I would have preferred teams refuse to play in the USA... That would have sent a message...

Chris Smith48

FIFA are more corrupt than Trump. It really is time the leading professional players set up a new international football association. They are wealthy enough to do it.

Marko Silberhand32

. I second that ! 💠 👊 💠

Temu Bob Ross24

FIFA must survive! I need to know who wins next year's peace prize!

Skatingfool19

Screw FIFA. They sold their souls to the devil.

jackiefromtexas16

Anybody stupid enough to come here after seeing what's going on over here is asking for heartache. The World Cup deserves to fail. They're holding it in the wrong country. This is no longer a welcoming country or a safe venue.

Jill Scott-Davies 🇬🇧15

Completely agree!! Hotels are reporting no upturn in bookings. With the current issue with flights/fuel and ticket prices I doubt many will be able to afford to attend. Best stay at home watch it in safety with good friends!!

At this point FIFA is just a parasite on world football. $2.7 billion in reserves? Why isn’t that being spent on fucking football, rather than Infantino’s infantile peace prices and $8,000 World Cup tickets? FIFA should be dismantled and replaced by people who love football not cash.

John Topper10

If I were a soccer coach, player, fan. I WOULD NOT COME TO AMERICA AT THIS TIME. You may not make it back home. As for FIFA, the can KMA. 💋

raventerp1.bsky.social8

I'm not watching any of it. And international friends should stay HOME.

shauntompkins62.bsky.social7

I can see thousands of free tickets being given away just to fill up the stadiums ...

Pablobrooker6

Been saying this for a while, think they've pushed football to saturation point as well. Bigger and longer competitions. Doesn't feel special anymore. Football effectively never ends, there is never a moment in a year that football isn't being played. Doen with it bores me to tears.

puznic.bsky.social6

And I hope that it will be such a disaster that the Olympic Committee pull their heads out of their asses and say 'yeah, we're moving the Olympics somewhere else!'...

Krapp5

The upside is that this corrupt and broken World Cup is forcing a much-needed reckoning in the game as fans turn their backs in number. Hopefully, football as it's now become WON'T survive but will die, and the game will re-emerge as something different and better, closer to what it used to be.

Qatar / USA / Saudi Arabia (2034) what a joke. Corrupt as f**k

What's the betting Trump has stolen the World Cup trophy and they've had to make a fake replacement?

🩵💙🩵 Beth 🩵💙🩵4

Prices for tickets to some of the matches at Gillette Stadium are over $2000 apiece. It’s freaking soccer.

Ian St James4

And get rid of Jonny Infantile, and his ridiculous FIFA Peace Prize, while you’re at it.

2000MPH4

What to do something to help it fail? Here is list of some sponsors to avoid for the next few months. If they see sales drop they won't want to support a corrupt organisation like FIFA in future. Coca-Cola McDonald's Lays (Walkers Crisps) Unilever (Dove) AirBnB Marriott Budweiser Adidas

Prez Temu Jesus4

I promise not to watch 1 second of it (from Australia)

Dragonwitch3

FIFA will survive but that stupid peace prize will go down in history as a major mistake committed by FIFA. I also hope the World Cup this year suffers due to Trump's NeoNazi regime because it will go down in history as the world condemnation of Nazi terrorism.

Luke3

Plus it will embarrass the shit out of Trump. That would make it worth it.

Hans P 🇬🇱🇩🇰🇪🇺3

The reason it's in the states is because ticket sales are guaranteed, even if the fans don't come. Cities might not be all happy, as many of the expected revenue generators, like tourism and hotel nights won't be there. So, that bit might be a reason for this being the last US world cup.

More players need to boycott since their countries won't.

World Cup 2026 Don't come Don't watch Don't play Shut FIFA down

ArgyllanderⓋ🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺😷2

Seems like a sensible event to be having amid a Trump induced oil crisis that's about to get far worse (from an oil supply perspective) any week now. Then there's the good ole US event premium pricing and the small matter of having ICE to contend with. Just why bother?

Juadog2

FIFA is a horrible group who are doing their best to destroy the game.

Sneag2

It used to piss me off, but these days I kind of proud that England keeps getting passed over for world cups. Despite the great stadia & massive fan base. I think it shows that the English FA with all its faults, isn't totally corrupt & won't pay the required bribes to FIFA.

SafeWaterCleanAir 💦☮️🌏🌍🌎2

Visitors to the US may well be stopped at customs and have their phones scoured for their social media posts. So I suggest bringing a burner phone when you visit the US, even a citizen who leaves the US. I don’t know how visiting brown and black people will stay safe.😔 Maybe ICE will go on vacation.

domiracer.bsky.social2

The big question is which is more corrupt - FIFA or the IOC? You'd rather deal with the Russian mafia, wouldn't you...

guidegroup.bsky.social2

And even if FIFA survives, hopefully Infantino will not

Jp Kwanngo2

It’s been bent for decades Havelange then Blatter were just crooks who took over. This is a great Doc on how corrupt it is. www.netflix.com/gb/title/802...

Pat2

Agree. They are wrecking the game and treat players like commodities not humans. They're going from full season into WC without any breaks all because of these asses lining their pockets.

dpengelly.bsky.social2

Instead of standing up to FIFA's corruption America is embracing it.

Son of Leodis 🤍💛💙2

We used to think Blatter was bad, Infantino is another level.

Paul-Who-Reads-A-Lot2

The Cup is being played for in Canada and Mexico, too. I can understand people not wanting to visit the U.S. and spend money for the games, but Canada and Mexico - I wish them unmitigated success. Not their fault that we have a moron in charge of our government.

Xenubarb2

After giving the toddler in Chief a fake peace award, FIFA should go die and rest upon the trash heap of History.

Names Jelmes2

Never been happy for not qualifying.
