Amnesty International and allied human-rights groups issued a travel advisory for fans, players, journalists and other visitors to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, saying the "deteriorating human rights situation" and the absence of meaningful guarantees from FIFA, host cities or the U.S. government create heightened risks. The advisory highlights concrete safety and rights threats such as detentions, deportations and restrictions on free expression that could affect people trying to enter, work in or report from host cities. The warning arrives as FIFA has canceled tens of thousands of hotel rooms and some hotels are slashing World Cup rates, putting the tournament's projected $30.5 billion U.S. economic boost at greater risk and giving visitors reason to reconsider travel plans.
