Mariners retire Randy Johnson's No. 51
The Seattle Mariners retired Randy Johnson's No. 51 during a jersey retirement ceremony at T-Mobile Park, with former teammates and franchise legends Ichiro Suzuki, Edgar Martínez and Félix Hernández in attendance. Johnson closes his Hall of Fame résumé with 303 career wins, 4,875 strikeouts, five Cy Young Awards, 10 All-Star selections, a perfect game in 2004 and the 2001 World Series MVP. Team owner John Stanton announced the Mariners will erect a Randy Johnson statue in 2027, which will join the statues of Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martínez and Ichiro Suzuki. The team also wore a commemorative patch and showed a video montage, underscoring Johnson's lasting legacy with the franchise.
The guy sitting behind me is asking who Randy Johnson is 😭
This man sat through that whole ceremony and just asked “was Randy known for his fastball?” 😭
I’m not even that old man but this makes me feel old
He should be banned from the stadium immediately
Is he sitting behind you in the ballpark? This would seem to be an excellent teaching moment. And I AM that old. I remember we got him and Mark Langston from Montreal and Langston was supposed to be the Big Deal. He threw one no-hitter and Unit vaporized a seagull.
oh i was hoping you’d be there!!
Not super interested in waxing all nostalgic, but Randy Johnson was my first favorite player and it‘s kinda cool his number is retired.
I seriously considered quitting the Mariners when he was traded because that whole situation was so infuriating. But I’m still here and idk, was that right decision? Who can say.
(deleted because I can't type). I was in the Dome in 1995 for Game 5 of the ALDS and when he came in off the bench, the way the crowd, which was already insane, went absolutely BATSHIT was amazing.
