Damon Jones pleads guilty in NBA gambling probe
Former NBA player and assistant coach Damon Jones pleaded guilty Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Brooklyn federal court to federal wire fraud for selling inside information to gamblers. Court filings show Jones texted co-conspirators explicit game tips, including 'Get a big bet on Milwaukee tonight before the information is out' about a 2023 game, and admitted taking money in exchange for those tips. He is the first person to plead guilty in the federal gambling sweep that has produced more than 30 arrests, and his plea carries up to two years in prison under the agreement. The guilty plea sharpens federal scrutiny of sports gambling and increases pressure on prosecutors to pursue additional charges against players and team staff who pass inside information.
