Bears take Stanford tight end Sam Roush with No. 69 pick
The Chicago Bears selected Stanford tight end Sam Roush with the No. 69 pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Roush, a former rugby player WHO said he beat his times at Stanford's pro day, posted a 9.94 RAS that ranked 10th among 1,471 tight ends measured since 1987 and projects as a physically tough blocker with receiving upside. Chicago ran the fifth-most plays in 13 personnel last season and added Roush after Durham Smythe left in free agency, signaling a plan to use multiple tight end sets in Ben Johnson's offense. The pick creates immediate competition for Cole Kmet and gives the Bears a bigger, more versatile tight end room for run-blocking and two-tight-end passing packages.
Another tight end for Ben Johnson, as the Bears take TE Sam Roush. Per @danebrugler.bsky.social: "With his rugby background, Roush prides himself on trying to be the toughest and most physical player on the field."
The Bears did finish 5th in the NFL last season in plays run in "13 personnel" and didn't have a No. 3 tight end. Cole Kmet has two years left on his contract. Roush also has plenty of special-teams experience. Maybe thats too rich for a third-round pick, but we'll learn more soon...
Third TE is a priority free agent after round 7 ends. Not a third rounder as you watch every possible defensive lineman get taken.
