Munetaka Murakami ties MLB rookie record with 5th straight HR

sportsApr 23, 202619299

Chicago White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami homered in his fifth straight game Sunday in Phoenix, crushing a 451-foot, first-pitch blast with a 110.2 mph exit velocity to tie the MLB rookie record. The shot was Murakami's 10th homer of the season and makes him the most prolific Japanese-born hitter through his first 24 MLB games, surpassing Shohei Ohtani's six. Murakami's streak ties a rookie record previously achieved 12 times, including by White Sox slugger Ron Kittle in 1983, and also equals the White Sox franchise record for consecutive games with a homer. If Murakami homers in a sixth straight game, he will set a new major league rookie record.
