President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered a full investigation into Monday’s Teotihuacán shooting after an armed man fired from atop one of the pyramids, killing one Canadian tourist and wounding at least 13 people at the archaeological site north of Mexico City. Sheinbaum also demanded explanations after four U.S. officials died following an operation in Chihuahua, saying Mexico’s federal security cabinet was not informed and that the action was a decision by the Chihuahua state government. Sheinbaum said state governments must obtain federal authorization before collaborating with U.S. personnel and vowed to investigate whether any laws were broken in both the Teotihuacán response and the Chihuahua operation.
